"Dr. Ozzie Grenardo is a great physician and a great person. I have known him for more than 10 years, as both my primary care physician and later as my friend. Of course, he is industrious, smart, driven, honest, and accomplished. However, I believe I can speak more confidently about Dr. Grenardo’s other qualities that contribute to his clinical success. Always an approachable professional, he shows his patients empathy, compassion, humility, and a warm smile.

As a woman, we are often subjected to dismissal, minimization, and disbelief by the medical profession. But while in Dr. Grenardo’s presence, as a patient, I felt heard and valued. He trusted my knowledge about my body. And when I would say something is wrong, he would not judge me nor doubt me. Because he is humble and empathetic, Dr. Grenardo does not enter the room as though he descended from a white-coated tower of pretentiousness. I moved to Colorado from the East Coast. I quickly realized I needed a primary care physician in the community to ﬁll in for what was lacking at the VA Medical Center. I developed a couple of complicated illnesses. I had not yet found anyone I could trust at the VA. There were times when I needed to talk with someone about a recommended treatment plan. I brought these concerns and fears to Dr. Grenardo. He listened to all my reasons why I felt uncertain and

obstinate about the plan, smiling and laughing with me as I joked about the specialists.

Most importantly, he asked me what I wanted to do, rather than telling me what I should be doing. Then, after saying a few well-chosen words--words he knew would register with me--he had managed to convince me the plan was the best thing since sliced bread. Dr. Grenardo also assured me that if things did not work out for the best results, he had my back. I could depend on him to be with me to make the next decisions and to take the next steps. And he was. And he still is. When I chose Dr. Grenardo as a primary care physician, I received so much more than I thought I would ever need or want. And I am forever grateful."
